Supermodel Niki Taylor Joins Nexcare™ Bandages to Show That Helping to Save a Life is Always in Style

3rd Annual Nexcare give Program in Partnership with the American Red Cross Thanks and Encourages Blood Donors with New Fashion-Inspired Bandage Collection

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In 2011 alone, nearly 6 million people across America may require a blood transfusion. With no substitute for human blood, those in need rely on the kindness of donors. Through their generous actions, these blood donors prove how one person can make a difference in the lives of many. To raise awareness of this need, NexcareTM Bandages, in partnership with the American Red Cross and Supermodel Niki Taylor, announces the third annual Nexcare give program. This nationwide initiative thanks blood donors and encourages others to give. The program kicks off on World Blood Donor Day, Tuesday, June 14.

Taylor’s dedication to the cause stems from her own experience as a patient in need. In 2001, Taylor was in a near-fatal car accident and required more than 100 units of blood. She credits her survival to the donors and doctors who helped save her life.

“As someone who owes her life to donors who gave to help someone they didn’t even know, I think giving blood is a critical community service that cannot be overlooked. Currently, however, only about eight percent of those who can donate blood do so each year,” said Niki Taylor. “Through the Nexcare and American Red Cross give program, I hope to educate people about the impact each person can have, and help them realize that helping to save a life is always in style.”

New for 2011, Nexcare Brand will be giving away a collection of five fashion bandages inspired by the latest runway trends and emblazoned with the word “give” to demonstrate how doing good looks good, too. This collection will feature the vibrant, fashionable and trend-focused designs of chevron, plaid, gingham, zebra, and “classic”, further demonstrating how helping to save a life is always in style.

With the support of American Red Cross Blood Services Regions, the Nexcare giveprogram inspires people in America with a message of hope and serves as a symbol of this important cause. The focus of the program, World Blood Donor Day, comes at an important time each year. As local blood centers typically face summer shortages, the nation’s blood supply comes under strain due to fewer donations because of increased vacation schedules and other seasonal distractions.

Nexcare Brand has launched a new Facebook page where visitors can easily find a location near them to donate as well as sign up to receive additional bandages for free by mail. Visitors can also share their story, and sign a pledge to donate blood this World Blood Donor Day. Participants pledging to give blood have the opportunity to share with their friends and encourage them to pledge, too.

The Nexcare giveBandages will be available for free at American Red Cross blood drives and donor centers nationwide as well as online at www.nexcaregive.com, while supplies last.
