Get Ready to Experience Golf, 3M Style @ the 2024 3M Open

“3M is a valued partner and their groundbreaking materials science help us drive innovation in our Callaway golf equipment.”

– Callaway VP of Manufacturing & Quality, Norm Smith

When looking across the landscape of the PGA TOUR, no other title sponsor can authentically do what 3M is doing by using its own science to host a golf tournament. This fact –referred to as 7,400 yards of 3M Science – will be on full display at the 2024 3M Open as fans get to experience how the same 3M Science driving true innovation in golf, is helping to empower modern life, advance human progress, and deliver a brighter future.

This is Golf, 3M Style—where excellence, innovation, and community converge to redefine the very essence of the sport and the world around us.

The Lab

In 3M’s primary activation area, called “The Lab”, fans will see a variety of individual technologies – primarily the 6 most common 3M technologies used in the golf world: abrasives, adhesives, advanced robotics, films, nonwovens, and performance materials (3M Glass Bubbles) – elevating science’s role in golf, but more so in the world.

We will use golf as the relevant way in to elevate the story to bigger innovation in our broader lives. For example, the same adhesives used in the manufacturing of golf clubs (VHB, Scotch-Weld) are helping to usher in next-gen consumer electronics; the same abrasives finishing golf irons are being employed by space shuttle manufacturers to prepare their ships for flight; the same Glass Bubbles used by Callaway to improve the sound and feel of their irons is helping power NASA’s return to space with its ARTEMIS missions.

One million lives impacted and $7.5 million donated

The 3M Open is more than a golf tournament; it's a force for good. Since 2019, the event has touched about one million lives and donated $7.5 million to local non-profits, embodying the #GolfThatMatters ethos. This commitment to social responsibility will continue to be a cornerstone of the 2024 event and beyond as the tournament seeks to impact 500,000 more lives in the next two years.

Golf 4 All Day

Nearly 500 Minnesota youth will participate in the third annual Golf 4 All day on July 23. The event is designed to provide a fun and engaging day on the course and introduce them to the game of golf. Activities also include hands-on 3M Science demonstrations, arts and crafts, music and free food. Former NFL greats Larry Fitzgerald, Kyle Rudolph and John Randall will be on-hand to interact with the kids.

Growing the game

On Monday, July 22, the 3M Open will host a clinic for 30 girls within First Tee – Minnesota programs. The 3M Open aims to host the clinic as a way to continue to grow the game of golf. The event will be hosted by Emma Carpenter and the University of Minnesota Women’s Golf Team.

Emma will be back on Tuesday to host a clinic for First Tee –Minnesota participants on the back of the driving range. She will welcome more than 75 kids from the Twin Cities and instruction for the clinic will be provided by a PGA TOUR professional.

Country Concert at the Course

Country superstar, Chris Lane, will be performing at the 3M Open for the Post Play Par-Tee presented by Post-it on Saturday, July 27. The Kernersville, NC, native has appeared on Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, TODAY, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and CONAN, and was featured in PEOPLE’s 2019 Sexiest Man Alive issue.

The event will take place onsite at TPC Twin Cities on the hill overlooking holes 14 & 18. The event will start at approximately 6:45pm CT.

Women’s Leadership Summit

Back by popular demand is the 3M Open Women’s Leadership Summit set for Thursday, July 25. More than 400 attendees – a mix of aspiring young female professionals, veteran business leaders and their peers – will gather for a morning of networking and to hear from accomplished panelists and speakers. A keynote will be delivered by Mindi Cox, the chief marketing and people officer for O.C. Tanner, as she talks about her unique and simple career principles taught by her grandmother.

A special red, white and blue Friday

On Friday, July 26, patrons are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue as the 3M Open will host its first Folds of Honor Friday, in partnership with Huntington Bank and Cub. Folds of Honor is a non-profit dedicated to honoring the selfless commitment of U.S. service men and women and first responders.

On the course, 13 scholarships will be awarded to Twin Cities recipients, specifically children and spouses of fallen or disabled servicemen and women and first responders.

The Folds of Honor Friday will include an Honor Guard presentation and the national anthem will be performed by Emma Carpenter, a former University of Minnesota golf team member.
