3M Healthcare Data Dictionary and 3M Enterprise Master Person Index enable healthcare data exchange
3M Health Information Systems today announced new releases of the 3M Healthcare Data Dictionary (HDD) and the 3M Enterprise Master Person Index (EMPI), now web-based and offering the latest Application Program Interfaces (APIs) so they can be easily integrated with other healthcare information systems and applications. Designed using a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), and supporting national standards, the 3M interoperability solutions leverage more than 15 years of 3M experience in healthcare terminology and patient identity management.
The 3M HDD and 3M EMPI make patient data intelligible and actionable across multiple information systems, healthcare sites, and patient encounters. Scalable to meet today’s healthcare data exchange requirements, and offering an HL7 CTS compliant API, the 3M HDD is a controlled medical vocabulary server that translates and integrates patient data from disparate information systems, providing the data with both context and meaning. The 3M EMPI links the right patient to the right data by integrating and consolidating patient indexes from multiple patient registration systems into a single centralized index.
“Interoperability of the electronic health record and other information sources ultimately depends on accurate patient identification and meaningful patient data that supports patient care,” said Anthony Carrozzella, Business Director, Clinical Terminology, for 3M Health Information Systems. “We’ve rebuilt the 3M EMPI from the ground up, and enhanced the 3M HDD with the latest APIs, while still preserving their industry leading terminology management and patient matching functionality.”
Both the 3M HDD and 3M EMPI are offered with the latest web service technologies, allowing healthcare organizations to develop and integrate an infinite number of custom applications to preserve their IT investment.
The 3M Healthcare Data Dictionary provides a road map to the content and structure of patient data by defining and translating every data element and healthcare concept that occurs in a computerized patient record. It provides a practical, comprehensive implementation of industry-standard vocabularies across all domains, including ICD-9, ICD-10, General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs), SNOMED CT®, LOINC, RxNORM and more.
The 3M EMPI offers an accurate centralized summary of both patient demographic and encounter information. It is enhanced by 3M Advanced Matching Logic, a powerful tool that addresses duplicate record problems by intelligently comparing a multitude of data elements and anticipating possible mistakes and variations in data entry.
