3M Awards Ingenuity Grants to 32 Area Schools For Math and Science Projects

The 3M Foundation has awarded more than $195,000 in Ingenuity Grants to 32 schools in six East Metro districts – Mahtomedi, North St. Paul/Maplewood/Oakdale, Saint Paul, South Washington County, Stillwater and White Bear Lake. The grants are designed to support innovative classroom activities for third through eighth grade math and science teachers. Teachers apply for the grants for specific programs and can receive a maximum of $3,500 for materials.

“We are pleased to support teachers’ efforts to use exciting activities and methods to increase student interest and achievement in math and science,” said Robin Torgerson, vice president, 3M Community Affairs. “They make it fun while providing hands-on activities that allow students to learn by doing.”

This year’s projects range from “WeDo Go-Cart Tricks” to “Amusement Park Physics.” Awards will be presented to the winning teachers on May 13, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at 3M Center in St. Paul, MN. Totals by district are:
