Tough 3M GGP Fiber Patch Cords Available in New Configurations

Ideally suited for the workstation environment, 3M Glass/Glass/Polymer (GGP) fiber optic patch cords allow tighter bend radiuses than ordinary fiber optic cords. These features help them survive some demanding installation or use hazards that could break ordinary fibers. For example, in some situations, tough 3M GGP fiber patch cords have continued to perform even after being run over by a desk chair or having heavy objects dropped on them.

3M GGP fiber optic cable has a proven record of high performance and the ability to bend tightly and take abuse.3M GGP fiber has 20 percent lower bending stress than conventional optical fiber. Cables have operated with a less than 0.4-inch bend radius for more than five years without failure. A permanent, protective polymer coating around the glass helps protect the glass not only from the environment but also from nicks and scratches that commonly occur to bare glass during handling and termination. The protective layer is designed to increase reliability and provide a longer lifetime. 3M GGP fiber optic cable assemblies are ideal for panel-to-panel jumpers, equipment back planes, optical cross-connects and other applications that require reliability and mechanical strength.

3M will offer cable assemblies with combinations of FC, SC, ST, MT-RJ or LC connectors using single mode or multimode 3M GGP cable.

The cable assemblies conform to a combination of TIA/EIA, ISO, EN and 3M standards, chosen to meet even the toughest customer expectations, for multimode fibers at 850 and 1300 nanometers and are available in 50/125 microns and 62.5/125 micron multimode duplex versions. The single-mode assemblies are designed to operate at 1300 and 1550 nanometers. The LC cable assemblies may be ordered with a repositionable boot that provides better cable management.
