Naval Hospital Pensacola Goes Live with 3M Coding, Compliance Software
Department of Defense Coding Compliance and Editor Project Provides Actionable Data to Drive Process Improvement

3M Health Information Systems announced today the successful go-live of a comprehensive suite of 3M coding, compliance, and data analysis software at Naval Hospital Pensacola in Pensacola, Fla., the first site of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Military Health System's Coding Compliance and Editor project. After an initial performance period, the DoD Military Health System plans to roll out 3M software and services to approximately 500 military hospitals and clinics worldwide.

3M's fully integrated system of software products and consulting services is being used by the DoD Military Health System to establish enterprise-wide procedures for accurate patient coding and data management. The Coding Compliance and Editor project supports DoD goals to improve the accuracy of clinical information, promote correct billing, reduce the risk for noncompliance, trend clinical performance, and improve revenue generation. Coders at Naval Hospital Pensacola are reporting improved productivity and streamlined workflow now that the 3M software is fully operational, following a successful implementation that occurred on schedule with no down time experienced.

"Today's go-live announcement represents an important project milestone in creating lasting solutions for the DoD Military Health System in the areas of outpatient coding accuracy, third-party billing, and compliance reporting," says Josh Pollatsek, manager, Government Market Center, 3M Health Information Systems. "We are committed to supporting the DoD's goal of creating actionable data that will facilitate clean claims and drive process improvement across all military treatment facilities."

3M is providing the DoD Military Health System with data analysis and reporting tools for coding, grouping, and editing; reimbursement calculation; patient data abstracting; care management evaluation; and medical necessity review. As part of the overall implementation, 3M also is providing process improvement and training services for Military Health System coding and billing operations. 3M products comprising the DoD Coding Compliance and Editor project include the 3M Coding and Reimbursement System, 3M Physician Coding and Reimbursement System, 3M Coding Reference Software, 3M All Patient Refined DRG (APR-DRG) Software, 3M Audit Expert Inpatient and Outpatient Software, as well as 3M Health Record Management Software and the 3M Care Management System.

The Military Health System is the largest integrated health care delivery system in the world, delivering services to over 8.9 million beneficiaries. The contract covers all DoD Military Health System entities whose mission is to provide health care services and support to members of the Armed Forces, their family members, and others entitled to DoD health care worldwide, from the theater of operations to the continental United States.
