How 3M technology shapes the 3M Open, from Fan Village to fairway
Jul 16, 2026

The 3M Open offers more than world-class golf. For the nearly 30,000 fans who attend each day, the tournament also offers a closer look at 3M technologies in action, from the Fan Village to the TPC Twin Cities course itself.

3M products appear in everything from players’ clubs and course signage to cart and vehicle wraps, hearing protection for grounds crews and cooling technology designed to help fans beat the heat. Together, those applications reveal the science behind the event and the role 3M plays in shaping the tournament experience.

Fans interested in attending this premium PGA Tour stop can still purchase tickets and packages here.

Material science at race pace

At DRIVER, presented by 3M and PING®, a Fan Village experience open to all 3M Open attendees, guests can get an up-close look at the Cadillac Formula 1® Team show car. The interactive space highlights how material science can translate to on-track performance. The show car brings to life 3M’s recently announced multi-year partnership with the Cadillac Formula 1® Team and its role as the team’s Official Material Science Partner.

Through the partnership, 3M scientists and engineers will work alongside the Cadillac Formula 1® Team on lightweight materials, bonding and surface preparation, manufacturing optimization and on-demand trackside support. The collaboration brings the expertise used to power vehicles around the world to one of motorsport’s most demanding environments.

At 6,400 square feet, DRIVER also features club-in-hand games, driving simulators, and demonstrations, including a working FANUC robot that shows how PING applies 3M™ Scotch-Weld to bond dissimilar materials such as carbon and titanium in its driver heads.

Technical expertise in real time

During their visit to the DRIVER experience, visitors can also get a look at how 3M is making its technical expertise more accessible with Ask 3M, the company’s new AI-powered digital assistant. Built on verified 3M documentation and application knowledge, Ask 3M helps industrial customers evaluate materials, compare products and address application challenges through a conversational interface.

Whether users are identifying the right 3M adhesive or tape for a specific application, evaluating different solutions or exploring technical information, the tool provides fast self-service access to answers in real time.

Cooling comfort on the course

Across the course, 3M is partnering with ThermoShade to showcase a shade solution designed to help people stay cooler and more comfortable outdoors. ThermoShade’s Oasis structures feature patented shade panels that combine 3M™ Cooling Film with phase change material to reduce solar heat gain and absorb radiated body heat from occupants. The result is covered spaces that can feel up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit (11 degrees Celsius) cooler than conventional shade structures.

3M’s film works by radiating solar and thermal energy away from the surface and back toward the much colder sky, helping the structure cool below ambient air temperature under the right conditions. With a modular design that allows multiple units to be tiled together into pavilion or walkway configurations, ThermoShade’s Oasis system will provide premium covered comfort for guests and golfers along the course, including at 3M Open staff stations and hospitality areas.

To further support fan comfort, 3M’s Consumer Business Group is distributing sweat-wicking protective arms sleeves at its 3M™ THINSULATE and 3M™ Scotchgard tent in the Fan Village.

Community impact through golf

In partnership with 3M Community Impact, the 3M Open will host its annual Golf 4 All Day on Tuesday, July 21, at TPC Twin Cities. More than 500 students are expected to attend this educational experience and celebration of all things golf, made possible through partnerships with Tickets For Kids and organizations such as Solomon Hughes Sr. Golf Academy, First Tee Minnesota and the Tony Sanneh Foundation. Students will participate in activities in areas across the course, including Fan Village, Northwoods and the Main Entrance, and will have the chance to meet celebrity athletes, including Adam Thielen, Randall McDaniel, John Randle, Wally Szerbiak and more.
