At 3M, ethics and compliance starts at the top. On Oct. 13, 3M employees from around the world attended a global, virtual Ethics & Compliance event. Employees heard from Chairman and CEO Mike Roman who provided a message of inspiration for all employees about how 3M does business one way – with unwavering integrity.
“Unwavering integrity is at the foundation of our 3M’s culture, and a fundamental part of how we create value for all of our stakeholders,” Mike said. “It is critical that people trust we will always do the right thing, even when no one is looking.”
He encouraged employees to speak up if they had a question or concern and highlighted how doing things the right way is good for our brand, our stakeholders and our business. “Ethics, compliance, and unwavering integrity are at the heart of everything we do,” he said.
In addition, we heard from Dave Dillon, 3M board member and retired chairman of the board and CEO, the Kroger Co. Dave shared a message of inspiration about what it means to oversee a company like 3M, that is committed to doing the right thing.
“Recognize that people want to matter,” Dave said, sharing his philosophy on ensuring everyone feels valued. He said it is important to consider what is in the best interest in your organization, ultimately will be in the best interest of you as well. Your personal brand is important, he said. It is built on trust. Your personal brand is what you stand for. Your brand ultimately is a promise that is based on trust.
The event ended with a leadership panel and included reactions from our leaders around the world. It was truly a global event for all employees to learn what it means to live 3M’s Code of Conduct.
