3M announced today that Kristen Ludgate is appointed senior vice president, Human Resources, effective July 1, 2018.

Ludgate has broad experience in all aspects of human resource practices, along with expertise in legal and compliance matters. She most recently served as senior vice president, Corporate Communications and Enterprise Services. Prior to her current role, Ludgate was vice president of Global Human Resources Business Operations, where she was responsible for global human resources strategy and operations for 3M’s business groups and staff functions. Ludgate has also served as chief compliance officer, following her role as chief employment counsel where she worked to enhance 3M’s reputation and strong culture of integrity. Previous to 3M she was a business lawyer in private practice and also held multiple positions in higher education.

Ludgate earned a bachelor’s degree in government and legal studies from Bowdoin College, and a doctorate of law degree from the University of Minnesota.

She will succeed Marlene McGrath, who announced her intention to retire, effective July 1, 2018. “Marlene has made significant contributions to 3M throughout her 24-year career, capped by six years as head of the global human resources organization,” said Thulin. “We thank Marlene for her service and wish her well in the future.”

3M Corporate Communications will now report into Paul Keel, senior vice president, Business Development and Marketing-Sales. Enterprise Services will now report into Hak Cheol (H.C.) Shin, vice chair and executive vice president.
