3M Critical & Chronic Care Solutions Division announced today that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has assigned product-specific Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes for the 3M™ Coban™ 2 Layer Lite Compression System (Cat #2794). The innovative Coban 2 Layer Lite Compression System is a compression bandaging system containing two rolls – a comfort layer and compression layer.

HCPCS codes are used by suppliers and providers for reimbursement of medical products. The comfort layer has been assigned HCPCS code A6441 (padding bandage) and the compression layer has been assigned A6452 (high compression bandage). The new codes were effective beginning October 10, 2014.

Earlier this year, CMS assigned the same HCPCS codes to the 3M™ Coban™ 2 Layer Compression System (Cat # 2094). With this development, the Coban 2 Layer Compression System and Coban 2 Layer Lite Compression System now have both Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and HCPCS codes to provide reimbursement coverage.

The Coban 2 Layer and Coban 2 Layer Lite Compression Systems provide effective therapeutic compression for venous leg ulcers, lymphedema and other conditions warranting compression therapy. The Coban 2 Layer Lite Compression System is suited for treating patients who are frail, less mobile or new to compression. It offers a 25 percent reduction in resting pressure compared to the Coban 2 Layer Compression System which is ideal for treating the majority of patients.
