Skillpoint Alliance has been approved for $25,000 for STEM Pathway in Robotics, encouraging youth interest in science and technology through mentor-led robotics programs.
BookSpring will receive $13,000 to help fund Reading is Fundamental and Book Club at Wooten Elementary. These programs promote early literacy development by supplying “forever books” to children and encouraging their parents to read with them at home. 3M employees also volunteer by reading to the children and helping them select which books to keep.
Texas State University – San Marcos will use $10,500 towards research advisors for the 2014 Mathworks Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC). The advisors will help promising high school students interested in mathematics to develop important skills for future degrees and careers.
A grant of $10,000 to Girlstart will support free STEM programming and services at partner schools through Girlstart After School: STEM Education for High-Need Girls.
Foundation Communities will use $9,000 to deliver STEM programming, including Lego Brick Labs and a Lego Discover STEM cart, to low income students.
For the Children, Inc. has been awarded $8,500 for the 25th Annual School Supply Drive, providing free school supplies to Austin area children in need.
The Junior League of Austin received $7,500 towards Aid for Better Classrooms (ABC) Grants. This program enables teachers to bring exciting new curriculum-enhancing activities to the classroom through supplementary funding.
Sustainable Food Center, Inc. has been approved for $7,000 for Sprouting Healthy Kids to help students learn about growing and eating healthy foods.
Con Mi Madre will expand its services in and outside of Travis County with a grant of $3,000. This organization helps to prepare young Latina women to graduate from high school and succeed in post-secondary education.
$2,500 to EcoRise YOUTH INNOVATIONS will provide educational programming that introduces students to sustainability, design innovation and social entrepreneurship.
The Austin Film Society received $2,500 for the AFS Film Club, an after school program that uses digital media literacy as a framework for teaching students how to analyze, explore and produce films.
