3Mgives Austin - $100,000 to Central Texas agencies in April

SafePlace received $15,000 to support the Expect Respect program which engages youth, parents, schools and communities in building healthy teen relationships and preventing dating abuse.

A grant of $10,000 to Girl Scouts of Central Texas will fund community-based programming, making scouting available to high-needs girls in our community.

Huston-Tillotson University will use $10,000 to help fund the Austin Pre-Freshman Engineering Program (AusPrEP).  The nationally recognized program, located on college and university campuses in Texas, was founded in 1979 to identify high achieving middle and high school students with the potential and interest in becoming scientists and engineers. 

St. Edward's University received $10,000 for Strengthening K-12 STEM Outreach and Environmental Education at the Wild Basin Creative Research Center. The center is equipped with science laboratories and art workshops that enable students to study art, science, policy and local government, education, business, and other disciplines.

Urban Roots will use $9,000 to support their Core Youth Program 2014.  Over a 23-week period, farm interns from 13 different schools across Austin team up for hands-on farm work, educational workshops, service-learning opportunities and self-reflection activities.

Lifeworks received $8,500 for the Teen Parent Services Program. LifeWorks Youth & Family Alliance helps teenage parents understand how to prevent unplanned pregnancies, navigate community resources and gain access to tools and support that allow for success in their education and in their new role as a parent. 

Austin Symphony Orchestra Society, Inc. will use $8,000 to help fund the 2014 Children's Day Art Park, Wednesday mornings, June 11 through July 2. This summer program features local musicians, dancers, storytellers, magicians, mimes and crafts people. Youngsters can even visit the Instrument Petting Zoo, where they can see, touch and try to play the instruments, talk to symphony musicians and hear them play their instruments.

Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, Inc. has been approved for $7,500 for Kids Cafe.  Kids Cafe, an official program of Feeding America, serves as a direct partnership between the Capital Area Food Bank and existing after-school programs. There are more than 1,600 locally operated Kids Cafes across the nation. In 2011, the Food Bank served more than 33,500 meals to an average of 3,300 children per month.

$5,000 will go to Caritas of Austin for the Emergency Gap Funding for Children at Risk of Hunger and Homelessness.  In 2014, Caritas is celebrating 50 years of helping those in poverty achieve self-efficiency.

Multicultural Refugee Coalition will receive $5,000 for the MRC Saturday Global Kids Club.  This program aims to improve English proficiency, success in school, knowledge of life in America, social skills and pride in bicultural identity.  It meets every Saturday at the MRC Community Center from 12 - 3pm and is focused on children ages 12 and younger.

A grant of $5,000 has been earmarked for Zilker Theatre Productions’ 56th Annual Zilker Summer Musical.  This summer, “Oklahoma!” is coming to Austin July 11 – Aug. 16.

The University of Texas at Austin received $4,000 from the 3M Austin Women's Forum Scholarship program.

Round Rock Area Serving Center has been approved for $3,000 for Y.O.U. Youth Council, an executive board comprised of youth volunteers and adult mentors, that comes together to coordinate one volunteer project each month.
