A new report published by KLAS Research gives 3M Health Information Systems the highest overall performance score among vendors for its inpatient computer-assisted coding (CAC) technology. The 3M 360 Encompass System, which integrates and automates coding and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) processes, received the highest marks for positive impact on coder productivity, case mix index, “discharged not final billed” (DNFB) days, and overall cost of coding.1 The KLAS report, “Computer-Assisted Coding 2013: What’s the Impact?” is based on in-depth interviews of healthcare providers with CAC software that is live and operational.
3M was cited as the most considered inpatient CAC vendor with 40 percent of the validated live inpatient CAC clients. In some cases, clients using another vendor CAC application reported a performance score nearly 15 points higher when it was used in conjunction with 3M’s encoder.
“We feel the CAC performance scores are a testament to the collaborative spirit of our clients who are working with us to pioneer new technology and analytic tools,” said Jon Lindekugel, president of 3M Health Information Systems. “With changing regulations and ICD-10 implementation only a year away, we are committed to delivering innovative software and services that help our clients succeed.”
KLAS data and reports represent the combined opinions of actual people from provider organizations comparing how their vendors, products, and/or services performed when measured against participants' objectives and expectations.
More than 1,000 leading hospitals and facilities have awarded contracts to 3M for the 3M 360 Encompass System. With auto-suggested codes, real-time prompts for clinical documentation specificity, and concurrent access to quality performance data, the 3M system streamlines processes, strengthens collaboration between staff members, and provides actionable data to improve patient care. It is the only automated coding and documentation improvement system built on 3M coding and grouping logic that leverages 3M natural language processing (NLP) technology and coding rules.
