Honors go to MSC Industrial Supply, Stellar Industrial, and Haggard & Stocking
3M recognized three companies with “Distributor of the Year” awards at the 2012 Industrial Supply Association (ISA) Product Show & Conference in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, April 23. MSC Industrial Supply Co.; Stellar Industrial Supply, Inc.; and Haggard & Stocking were each honored as a result of their outstanding sales growth in 2011.
Chris Holmes, executive vice president for the 3M Industrial & Transportation Business, presented the awards as part of the company’s distributor celebration at ISA. This was the inaugural year for the awards, which were categorized according to the manufacturer’s distributor merchandising plan segmentations.
MSC Industrial Supply received the National Distributor of the Year award.Headquartered in Melville, N.Y., MSC has 100 branches and four major Customer Fulfillment Centers in the United States.
“The outstanding growth 3M has experienced with MSC Industrial Supply is no accident. It begins with joint planning of a calendar year of events for optimized execution, followed by calibration based on the effectiveness of each event. This clear alignment between the two management and marketing teams allows both groups to focus on the many opportunities available, including customized web content, targeted category gap fill programs, call center training, and more,” said Holmes. “This collaborative environment has led to results that repeatedly exceed market performance quarter by quarter and category by category.”
The Premier Distributor of the Year award went to Stellar Industrial.With headquarters in Tacoma, Wash., Stellar has a total of eight locations in the Pacific Northwest.
“Stellar goes beyond the general 3M Industrial product line to proactively sell from every corner of the full 3M line, including many addendum product lines such as power tools, packaging equipment, and Renewable Energy Division products. The company strives to create a high level of ‘on the street’ engagement between their sales team, their two 3M Certified Specialists, and 3M’s own field specialists, and actively uses the 3M Pioneer Rewards program to fuel and reward new business growth,” Holmes stated. “This organization lives the letter and spirit of the Premier designation.”
Haggard & Stocking received the Prime Distributor of the Year award.Based in Indianapolis, Haggard & Stocking also has a location in Fort Wayne, Ind.
“Herb Haggard took the opportunity both to develop an atmosphere of partnership with 3M and to leverage the 3M product line in a new market. The relationship evolved to a new level of mutual respect and collaboration,” said Holmes. “In 2009, Haggard & Stocking's local sales teams began to engage with 3M through basic account plans and promotions. As those relationships became stronger, joint field work ensued. In each of the following years, more strategic planning and engagement has helped contribute to outstanding growth, with sales up over three times the industry in 2011.”
The ISA is the premier trade association representing the Maintenance, Repair, Operations and Production (MROP) Industrial Supply Channel. The 2012 ISA Product Show & Conference, held on April 21-24, was projected to draw more than 2,000 attendees and 400 exhibitors. The show is the largest event of its type within the industrial supply channel.
