Healthcare reform, new compliance regulations, and the move to outcomes-based payment are putting pressure on clinical documentation and coding processes at hospitals across the country. To address these challenges and help transition to the new ICD-10 coding standard, 42 healthcare organizations have selected the 3M 360 Encompass System, including these leading facilities:
Advocate Lutheran General Hospital – Park Ridge, Ill.
Allegiance Health – Jackson, Mich.
Ardent Health Services – Nashville, Tenn.
Caldwell Memorial Hospital – Lenoir, N.C.
Care Alliance Health Services – Charleston, S.C.
Carilion Clinic – Roanoke, Va.
Centra Health – Lynchburg, Va.
Community Health Network – Indianapolis, Ind.
Hackensack University Medical Center – Hackensack, N.J.

The 3M 360 Encompass System addresses the inefficiencies of multiple coding and documentation processes and the added costs of unconnected systems by uniting coding, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), and performance monitoring in a single integrated workflow. With auto-suggested codes and real-time CDI prompts delivered to the point of care and across all CDI and coding processes, the 3M solution helps facilities achieve complete documentation for better coded data, more accurate reimbursement, and outcomes data that truly reflects the care provided.
ICD-10 implementation in October 2013 will make accurate documentation and coding even more critical to healthcare payment and quality reporting. The 3M 360 Encompass System uses the 3M Coding and Reimbursement System as its foundation and incorporates complete ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding content. The system natively codes in ICD-10 and enables coding in ICD-9 while viewing the ICD-10 equivalent. Anatomy images are included to promote coding accuracy and coders can identify potential ICD-10 documentation insufficiencies while coding in ICD-9.
The system integrates 3M’s extensive CDI content and software tools with industry-leading Clinical Language Understanding (CLU) technology from Nuance Communications, Inc., which further enhances the new system’s ability to capture accurate and complete documentation at the point of care.
3M is an international leader in coding and patient classification systems with more than 5,000 hospitals worldwide using 3M coding solutions to code and group patient data for decision support, quality measurement, and reimbursement.
