3M to Establish Customer Technical Center in Taiwan

3M Taiwan, a subsidiary of 3M, today announced that it will establish a customer technology and innovation center in Yang-Mei City, Taoyuan County, to help bring innovation closer to its customers in Taiwan.

The 3M Customer Technical Center will showcase 3M’s technology and innovation and serve as a base for customers to test 3M’s exciting products and solutions that are new to the local market. “3M Taiwan is committed to growing local talents and the new innovation center is going to better stimulate industry development in Taiwan by showcasing and encouraging innovation,” added George Chao, managing director, 3M Taiwan.

Construction of the three-story Customer Technical Center is expected to be completed in 2012. The first floor will be an interaction center for key industries in Taiwan, such as automotive and machinery, to provide an experience involving large-size 3M products to customers. The second floor will feature an innovative industry experience center to demonstrate scientific theories in easy-to-understand scientific applications to visitors such as the general public, communities, and education groups. The third floor will be an education and training center, which accommodates approximately 300 people, for customers, communities, and all of Taiwan to share technologies with one another.

In line with 3M’s commitment to environmental protection, the 3M Customer Technical Center will be a green building, which will use wind power generation to supply power to part of its premises. Also, there are plans for an ecological pond for effective energy saving and water conservation, and a large logo that will be filled with soil covered by recycled Scotch-Brite material, which is non-woven and therefore will help the logo to grow better while preventing weeds. “This green, yet scientific and smart 3M logo, will symbolize the teamwork of all 3M employees to help take care of the environment,” said Chao.

Established in 1969, 3M Taiwan is based in Taipei City and has offices in Taichung and Kaohsiung; a logistics center in Dayuan, Taoyuan County; as well as a plant and an R&D center in Yangmei City, Taoyuan County. In 2005, 3M Taiwan Optronics Corporation was established in the South Taiwan Science Park as the only manufacturer of prism sheet films in Taiwan. There are more than 2,000 3M employees serving customers around Taiwan. The new innovation center in Taiwan is the 31st 3M Customer Technical Center in the world.
