Two new cables with broad applications across the electronics industry have been introduced by the 3M Electronic Solutions Division. The 3M brand Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables, Series 3758 and 3896 open up to flat cable to enable its mass termination to a broad line of insulation displacement connectors (IDCs). The cables are zippable for branching or discrete terminations. The primary cable has a continuous split/bond that repeats approximately every 2.4 inches, which improves flexibility. The continuous bonded wire option (SO) is also available without the split for high efficiency throughput. These are offered in varying conductor sizes ranging from 9 to 100, standard roll size of 275 feet, in standard and splice-free versions.
The 3M brand Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables, Series 3758 is a .050 inch 26 AWG stranded, mass termination PVC/PVC cable and is available in conductor counts up to 64. The 3M brand Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables, Series 3896 is a .025 inch 30 AWG stranded, mass termination PVC/PVC cable. It is available in conductor counts up to 100. The cables are designed to be used across all electronic market segments including OEM manufacturing cable equipment, computer and peripheral, medical equipment, test and instrumentation, industrial equipment, I/O devices and factory automation. Both cables are designed for internal and external cabinets where there is a need for ruggedness and low frequency data transmission ranges. The 3758 series cable is useful for longer transmission distances due to its 26 AWG and .100 inch centerline. The 3896 series cable allows for higher signal density due to its .025 inch centerline.
The 3M brand Round, Jacketed, Flat Cables, Series 3758 and 3896 are European RoHS(a) compliant and labeled pursuant to the China RoHS Marking Standard SJ/T 11364-2006.
