Product designers are afforded flexibility in a wide variety of OEM applications with a new style of I/O connector from the 3M Electronic Solutions Division. The new 3M brand Shielded Compact Ribbon (SCR) I/O Interconnect System consists of an assortment of 10-pin shielded I/O connectors and accessories. Built around a robust ribbon style contact interface for reliable repetitive plug/unplug applications, the SCR system’s contact is capable of carrying either signal or power, allowing designers flexibility in the location of power supplies to peripheral devices.
Using more pins than the popular IEEE 1394 connectors, the SCR connector system offers a similar form factor with increased signal carrying capacity. 3M SCR connectors are available in boardmount applications as a right angle through-hole male plug and vertical surface mount male plug or in male and female wiremount variations. All SCR connectors are 360 degree metal shielded for increased resistance to EMI and RFI. The connector system can be used in place of IEEE 1394 or 9-pin D-sub connectors. It terminates up to 18 AWG wire, providing longer haul attenuation than narrower gauge wire.
