George W. Buckley, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, 3M, announced today that Marschall I. Smith, Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Brunswick Corporation, will become Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel, 3M, effective July 16, 2007.
Smith will replace Richard Ziegler, who announced his retirement earlier in the year.

Mr. Smith, 62, has served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Brunswick Corporation since 2001. Prior to that, he was Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and General Counsel of Digitas, Inc.; Senior Vice President and General Counsel, IMC Global, Inc.; and Senior Vice President and General Counsel, American Medical International, Inc., following eleven years at Baxter, International, Inc.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Smith holds a B.A. from Princeton University, a J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School and an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Mr. Smith served proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
