Products to Focus on Enabling High Brightness, Contrast
and Extended Life for Projection Displays

The 3M Vikuiti KE Polarizer was recently introduced as the first in a series of related optical components for the projection display market focused on improving overall performance of 3LCD projection displays. Initial KE polarizer products have application in the green color channel with future products providing complete application coverage across all color channels. The unique polarizers are being introduced in parallel with planned, enhanced performance, imagers.

The primary design objectives for the KE Polarizer were to enable high-brightness, high-contrast and excellent 3LCD projection image quality from both front and rear projection systems. In addition, the KE Polarizer was developed to enable long-life projection engines and simplification of engine designs thus leading to lower product ownership cost for 3LCD projectors.

The key enabling technology in the KE Polarizer is based on a unique process used to create an intrinsic absorptive polarizing material resulting in a more durable, higher stability polarizing component when compared with traditional dye-stuff or iodine-based polarizers. KE Polarizer components have demonstrated an ability to sustain a high level of light engine performance with no image darkening or contrast loss over thousands of hours of continuous operation.
