Tactile feedback enhances slot player experience
3M Touch Systems Inc. announces it will demonstrate a new touch screen system including Immersion’s TouchSense tactile feedback technology, the MicroTouch Capacitive TouchSense System, at the Global Gaming Exposition (G2E) 2006 in Las Vegas, Nev., in booth 1697. The fully integrated touch screen and tactile feedback solution enables a completely new multisensory slot machine experience for players’ increased enjoyment. 3M Touch Systems is the exclusive touch-screen manufacturer providing TouchSense-enabled solutions for the casino gaming market.
The MicroTouch capacitive TouchSense System makes virtual onscreen buttons feel real. It supplies tactile feedback in response to a user’s touch, creating a more intuitive, engaging and natural experience for the player. With the system, a variety of touch-initiated tactile effects can be synchronized with audio and visual prompts, supplying game developers with a new set of interactive tools for greater creativity.
“Touch screens are the accepted standard for gaming machines because of their ease of use and software flexibility,” said Mike Levin, vice president at Immersion Corp. “And with TouchSense technology, players know immediately that their selection was received, which supplies confidence in the machine and lets them focus on game action instead of system operation.”
The new 3M system combines a MicroTouch capacitive touch screen, Immersion TouchSense actuators, and a hybrid electronics controller based on the powerful MicroTouch EX II electronics platform. This integrated system supplies the fast, accurate and tactile response required for slot game play. Several major international gaming machine manufacturers are currently evaluating MicroTouch capacitive TouchSense System prototypes for their next-generation slot machines.
“We have been collaborating for months on this solution and are very excited to have it on display at G2E,” said Ty Silberhorn, general manager at 3M Touch Systems.
“This new design expands on our continued commitment to provide innovative, value-add technology advancements to the gaming market.”
The MicroTouch Capacitive TouchSense System will be commercially available in Q2 2007.
