3M has introduced a family of dual conductor cords as part of a personnel ground monitoring system to control personal electrostatic discharge (ESD) when used in conjunction with ESD workstation monitors. The 3M Dual Conductor Cords Series 2300 from the 3M Electronic Solutions Division features a new cord construction with a double insulated jacket that improves the cord’s durability to withstand repeated flexing and makes for a lighter weight cord. Further, the “positive” plug grip makes it easy to insert and remove the cord from a remote input jack. The family includes cords that are available in 5-, 10- or 20-foot lengths and compatible with all existing 3M dual conductor fabric, metal and thermoplastic wristbands.
As part of a personal ground monitoring system to control static electricity, dual conductor systems allow for a monitored loop resistance measurement, which includes the wristband contact to the wearer and a redundant grounding path. If one conductor of the system fails, the other can still function maintaining the grounding of the person. As a result, this prevents static from being generated by the person, eliminating possible exposure to static-sensitive electronic components.
The 3M Dual Conductor Ground Cords 2360, 2370 and 2371 are a straight plug design.
Two new series of right angle plug connection designs have been added. The right angle plug design has a lower profile, which reduces the chance of damage to the cord from a chair, equipment, or personnel bumping up against the mono plug as it is connected to the dual remote input jack.
The 3M Dual Conductor Ground Cords 2360R, 2370R and 2371R, which use a 3.0 mm diameter plug tip, are recommended for use with 3M workstation monitors and also for some other monitor manufacturers that use a smaller input jack design.
The other right angle plug connection series, the 3M Dual Conductor Ground Cords Series 2391, 2392 and 2393, use a 3.4 mm diameter plug tip and are recommended for use with other manufacturers monitors that use a larger input jack design.
