3M Precision Optics to License Prism Technology for Projection Displays

3M Precision Optics Inc. announced today that Prodisc Technology Inc. (Taipei, Taiwan) has signed a non-exclusive license agreement for the use of 3M's patented Vikuiti total internal reflection (TIR) prism technology for use in its projection light engines.

The versatile Vikuiti TIR prism technology may be used in multiple configurations, including both standard and reverse positions of the lens and the imager relative to the Vikuiti TIR prism. This offers maximum flexibility to projection system designers by allowing different internal cabinet layouts of electronics and light engine designs.

"Licensing our Vikuiti TIR prism technology simplifies the supply chain," said Chris Nitz, marketing manager, 3M Precision Optics Inc. "We also believe introducing a licensing program with reasonable royalty rates will stimulate increased use of the technology." High brightness uniformity and excellent contrast result from use of this 3M patented technology, which is simple to implement and flexible in its use.

For more information regarding licensing the Vikuiti TIR prism, contact Chris Nitz at (513) 943-5621 or via email at canitz@mmm.com.
