3M Precision Optics Inc. Announces Signing of Optics License Agreement by Delta Electronics

3M Precision Optics Inc., announced today that Delta Electronics (Taipei, Taiwan) has signed a nonexclusive license agreement for a number of 3M Precision Optics patents related to hollow light tunnel technology widely used in image projection systems.

The tunnel provides for homogenization of light from a point source and enhances the ability to create a uniform picture. The tunnels are typically applied within Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology light engines and liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) microdisplay-based projection light engines. The license agreement demonstrates 3M's continuing commitment to providing access to key performance enhancing optics technology used in many front-screen projectors and rear-screen projection televisions.

3M supplies a broad range of products enhancing the performance of CRT and microdisplay-based projection displays and is engaged in the commercialization of next generation components and systems enabling high performance, long life and thin microdisplay projection televisions. Current product offerings include 3M Vikuiti projection components based on DLP technology, as well as high-temperature polysilicon (HTPS), LCD and LCoS projection components.
