3M Innovative Properties Co. and 3M Precision Optics Inc., both wholly owned subsidiaries of 3M, have resolved a patent infringement suit filed in the United States District Court in Minnesota in January 2004 against InFocus Corporation relating to the sale of light engines for projection televisions.
As a result of the mutually acceptable terms of the resolution, InFocus has licensed 3M's patented total internal reflection (TIR) prism technology for use in its projection light engines. The versatile TIR prism technology may be used in multiple configurations, including both standard and reverse positions of the lens and the imager relative to the TIR prism. This offers maximum flexibility to projection system designers by allowing different internal cabinet layouts of electronics and light engine designs.
