The 3M Performance Materials Division, makers of 3M Novec fire protection fluid 1230, a C6-fluoroketone halon alternative, received the Minnesota Tekne Award. The award recognizes technology innovators who have made lasting contributions to enhancing the quality of life and competitiveness of Minnesota.
3M Performance Materials was honored in the Established Company category with the Advanced Manufacturing Award that recognizes companies that exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit and promise continued economic growth through technology development and application. Nominees were judged on three criteria: their meaningful impact on growth, success and sustainability of Minnesota's technology-based economy; demonstration of vision in helping shape the future of technology; and demonstration of excellence, integrity and persistence in pursuing that vision.
"We are proud that the Minnesota High Tech Association has recognized Novec fire protection fluid 1230 as a scientific breakthrough in the industry," said Stefan Babirad, technical director, 3M Performance Materials.
Novec fluid 1230 is designed to balance the need for extinguishing performance, human safety and low environmental impact. With a minimal environmental impact, Novec fluid 1230 is uniquely positioned to meet current halon replacement regulations and those of the foreseeable future.
