The 3M Optical Component business and Fiberguide Industries Inc. of Stirling, N.J., have entered into a reseller agreement for Fiberguide to become an authorized OEM reseller of 3M specialty optical fiber.
Fiberguide will market and sell a wide range of the 3M Power-Core line of large core multimode (MM) optical fibers, featuring 3M TECS brand hard clad silica and 3M TECS coated silica/silica fibers and high numerical aperture (NA) fibers. Also included in the agreement are the 3M high NA silica/silica fibers and specially coated fibers, including colored coatings, floppy coatings and nylon coatings.
Ted Rich, founder and president of Fiberguide, said, "This agreement with 3M is a major step for Fiberguide in being able to respond to customers' needs with a wider range of product offerings. We are excited and look forward to working further with 3M."
"We're pleased to be entering into this agreement with Fiberguide," said Frank Little, executive director, Research and Development, Corporate Technology, and 3M Electro and Communications Business. "It will help 3M expand our presence in engineered packaging solutions with large core multimode fiber. Working with Fiberguide opens new channels for the 3M Power-Core line of multimode fibers and will simplify the supply chain for those customers needing large-core bundled assemblies."
Features and Benefits of the 3M TECS fiber include, but are not limited to:
-- High concentricity and core-clad-ratio for excellent connection alignment, fiber core positioning and high transmission bundles.
-- Hard polymer coating increases fiber strength, reduces static fatigue in humid environments and protects the fiber during buffer stripping to prevent fiber breakage.
-- High core-to-clad bonding prevents pistoning and provides more stable crimp-and-cleave or epoxy terminations.
Product applications include, but are not limited to:
-- Laser delivery systems -- medical, ordinance initiation, industrial.
-- Sensing systems -- medical, industrial, spectroscopy.
-- Laser diode systems.
-- Short-haul data and video communications.
