MetPak HSHM Backplane Connectors from 3M Meet Electrical Challenges

MetPak HSHM (High Speed Hard Metric) five-row backplane connectors from 3M are the high-speed solution for designs with challenging electrical performance and space requirements in the telecom/datacom, enterprise computing, and automated test equipment industries. They are based on the industry standard 2-mm hard metric connector and are sized in accordance with the IEC-61076-4-101 connector standard. Because MetPak HSHM connectors come in IEC standard module styles, the system provides a natural electrical upgrade path for users of CompactPCI hard metric connector systems and will fit in existing chassis.

These connectors provide up to 5 Gbps data rates, a density of 63 mated lines per inch, and dual beam contact construction for high reliability. The connectors include integrated shields to allow full signal pin usage at high speeds without sacrificing pins to ground. The shielding is flexible to allow for column differential, row differential (for within-pair skew reduction), and single-ended signaling. For higher pin count requirements, 3M also offers MetPak HSHM eight-row connectors, providing a density of 101 mated lines per inch.

MetPak HSHM five-row modules are available from 3M with four weeks lead time, and pricing is provided upon request.
