ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--3M announced today that its Vikuiti polarizing lens products for sunglasses are now available to all converters and manufacturers worldwide looking to reduce glare and block UVB/UVA with a scratch-resistant, lightweight and flexible lens.

Vikuiti VP sunglass polarizing lens products deliver the look, feel and durability that manufacturers demand for their customers. The products, which previously were supplied exclusively, absorb glare to provide a clear view in ultrahigh ambient light conditions. In addition to the typical colors of gray, tan and amber, custom colors and widths are available for specialty applications.

"We're excited about expanding the availability of our sunglass products for a worldwide presence in both traditional and custom sunglass arenas," said Rich Pawlak, sales manager, 3M Optical Systems Division. "Examples of custom applications include branded sunglasses, sold through theme parks or other entertainment venues, featuring alternate formats and styles for the whole family," he explained.

Multiple optical grade films are sold in standard reel widths, lengths and thickness that can be die-cut, formed and profiled. Vikuiti VP sunglass polarizing lens products feature high percentage yields during processing and will accommodate hole punching and riveting. Protective films on each reel help minimize process damage.

3M's expertise in light management and glare reduction is reflected in its line of Vikuiti brand products that include proprietary microreplicated and multilayer display enhancement films for applications in electronic displays, such as LCD televisions, mobile phones, desktop monitors and notebook computers. 3M also supplies touch screens and systems, high-performance projection screens and precision optical components for a wide range of display applications.
