ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--3M and the WOCN Society announce that the Adult Critical Care Skin Care
Team from Strong Memorial Hospital of Rochester, N.Y., is the inaugural
recipient of the 3M Award for Excellence in Skin Safety.
3M sponsored the competitive award to recognize and promote health care
facilities and their WOCN Society members who have implemented a patient
care regimen resulting in improved skin integrity, or the maintenance of
patients’ skin health as it undergoes treatment in a health care
facility or system. To compete for the award, facilities were invited by
the WOCN to submit summaries of skin care programs that have achieved
measurable and sustained results and which also demonstrate
best-in-class prevention protocols, product formulary, interdisciplinary
participation, senior leadership engagement, as well as creative and
effective staff and patient education. Members of the winning team
received complementary travel and attendance to the annual WOCN
conference in Charlotte.
Strong Memorial Hospital is a teaching hospital comprised of three
patient care centers that are part of the University of Rochester
Medical Center. The facility’s program was selected for its outstanding
achievements in pressure ulcer prevention and promotion of skin
integrity.
“Along with WOCN, we’ve long been advocates of improved patient care in
the area of skin integrity,” said Marcello Napol, Skin Integrity global
business leader of 3M Skin & Wound Care Division. “Strong Memorial
Hospital has instituted a commendable program that has delivered
tangible results. It’s a privilege to provide this award in recognition
of their success.”
Mojdeh Poul, vice president of global marketing for 3M’s Skin and Wound
Care Division, presented the award to Cathy Van Houten, project champion
of the winning program at Strong Memorial Hospital, at the 44th
Annual Conference of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society,
hosted this year in Charlotte, N.C.
"WOC nurses specialize in skin and wound care and lead efforts within
their institutions and facilities to provide cost-effective care with
positive patient outcomes. We are honored to offer this new award
program that will help to facilitate best practice sharing as well as to
recognize the contributions of skin and wound care professionals,” said
Nicolette Zuecca, executive director of WOCN Society.
